Wie heise.de heute berichtet, sind in den beliebten Wordpress-Plug-Ins WP Super Cache und W3 Total Cache  gefährliche Lücken aufgetaucht. Durch die Schwachstellen können Angreifer beliebigen Code auf den Servern ausführen. Die gepatchten Versionen tragen die Versionsnummern 1.3.1 für WP Super Cache und 0.9.2.9 für W3 Total Cache.

Wir raten dringend dazu sofort die schon zur Verfügung stehenden Patches zu installieren.

TYPO3 is an enterprise-class, Open Source CMS (Content Management System), used internationally to build and manage websites of all types, from small sites for non-profits to multilingual enterprise solutions for large corporations. The main benefit of using a Content Management System should be to separate web layout and content. This makes it possible to add pages, content, images and documents to a website without knowing much about web layout and HTML. So let’s deploy this great CMS to the Jelastic cloud! Here’s how:

Create an environment

1. Log in to Jelastic Manager.

2. While in Jelastic dashboard, click the Create environment button at the top left.

3. Pick Apache application server, PHP v5.4 and MySQL (or MariaDB) database. Specify your cloudlet limits and name of your environment (for example, typo3). Click Create.

Wait just a minute for your environment to be created.

Deploy Application

1. Visit the official TYPO3 web-site to download the latest TYPO3 CMS version as a zip package (the downloading will start automatically).

2. Using the Deployment manager upload the package you have just downloaded.

3. Once the package is in Jelastic, deploy it to the environment you have just created.

Install TYPO3

1. Click Open in browser button next to the Apache node.

2. The Typo3 installation will be started. Click Continue.

3. In the Connect to your database host window choose the MySQL/MySQLi driver and fill in the Username and Password fields with credentials to your database (you would have received them via email while creating the environment). Put database server address in the Host field and click Continue button.

4. Then specify the name of a new database (for example, typo3) and click Continue button.

5. In the next window choose the Introduction package. Click Continue.

6. The installation will be started. Wait a few minutes for its completion.

7. Finally, enter the password for access to TYPO3 Admin Panel and choose the color of TYPO3 main page.

8. Congratulations! The TYPO3 was installed. Click Go to your Website button.

9. Now you can see a default main page. Click Log into TYPO3.

10. Just enter your login and password (which you’ve stated in the 7th step) and click Login. Your admin page will be opened.

7 simple steps to make your Database a little bit more secure:

1. Change the default root password

2 Use strong passwords, recommended

• Between 8 and 32 characters
• uppercase letters such as A, B, C;
• lowercase letters such as a, b,c;
• numerals such as 1, 2, 3;
• special characters such as $, ?, &; and

2. Remove root accounts that are accessible from outside your Environments

3. Remove anonymous-user accounts

4. Remove the test database (which by default can be accessed by all users, even anonymous users)

5. Activate https in Jelastic Dashboard

6. Configure proper User rights and set for all users a valid “Host” entry

7. Configure privileges for any user to a specific Database/Table

TomEE support

Tomcat is the most popular open source application server among our developers, but for those of you who need more a enterprise-ready server, we added TomEE.

TomEE is an all-Apache stack aimed at Java EE 6 Web Profile certification, where Tomcat is leader of the pack. Apache TomEE provides application developers with the best technology stack that can be deployed to a simple Java EE container. This application server combines several enterprise projects including Apache OpenEJB, Apache OpenWebBeans, Apache OpenJPA, Apache MyFaces and more. In a nutshell: Tomcat + Java EE = TomEE.

TomEE is a full-blown app server, but at the same time it stays simple and avoids architecture overhead. “Less is more” is the philosophy of Apache TomEE. It delivers Java EE 6 Web Profile in the simplest way possible. So, this application server runs without any additional runtime requirements or startup time for larger applications and it’s compatible with most of Tomcat-aware and Tomcat-tested tools.

MariaDB 10.0.0 support

MariaDB 10.0 is the development version of MariaDB. It is built on the MariaDB 5.5 series with backported features from MySQL 5.6 and entirely new features not found anywhere else. And now it is supported in Jelastic. MariaDB 10.0.0 is an Alpha release targeted on those who might want to test it. Do not use alpha releases on production systems.

If you want to try MariaDB 10.0 in Jelastic just add it as your database while creating your environment.

Caching in NGINX

Caching in NGINX is the process of storing data outside of the web servers. For example, the files a user automatically requests by loading a web-page can be stored in your NGINX cache directory. When a user returns to a page he’s recently been looking at, the browser may get those files from the NGINX cache directory rather than the original server, saving time and traffic.

So caching improves performance while accessing a resource in two ways:

• reduces the access time to the resource by copying it to a system closer to the user.
• increases the resource building speed by reducing the number of accesses. For example, instead of building the homepage of your blog at each request, you can store it in a cache.

With Jelastic you can use caching in both NGINX-balancer and NginxPHP server using/var/lib/nginx/cache directory which has been created specifically for this purpose.
